I met Patt more than fifteen years ago when I first walked into the rooms of AA (Alcoholics Anonymous).  She is one of the old-timers who lead me to sobriety.  Patt suggested that I read about the history of AA and the book Sermon On The Mount by Emmett Fox.  She always emphasized how new comers needed to read for themselves to learn what this program was about.  When she spoke in group meetings or as a speaker, she commanded your attention by her sound of authority in every word she spoke.  After reading Patt's book called Spiritual Infusion, I can honestly tell you that it is the most truthful and forthright tool on living life-on-life's terms for the addicted and for so called normal people.  This book could help anyone improve their mental health and find a faith in the Divine.  When I finished reading this book, I felt renewed!  Doug M, Yuma, AZ.

Does it surprise me that my long time childhood friend has written such an inspirational book?  No, it does not surprise me.  There was a short time that I had lived with Patt in 1985 and saw for myself how alcohol had taken over her life.  Patt left for Yuma 1987, then returned to Washington in 2001.  She was a new person.  When I visited with Patt in her home, she would be surrounded by her passion of reading materials.  Patt had her own revival going on.  Now, here she is with a book of her own, sharing her revelation of God's word in recovery.  This book has touched my heart and educated me so much about the 12 Step Program proving that Patt is a miracle of a 12 Step Recovery Program.

Patt happens to be my mother.  So I first met her June 25th, 1976.  Since I was a premature birth, I should have suspected then that things were not going to be normal!  Growing up with a single alcoholic, workaholic and out of control codependent mother was painful and sometimes just down-right scarey.  Today, I am so proud of who she is.  I am grateful that she is my mother.  When my mother sobered up it was difficult for her to see that all three of her kids were using, drinking and out of control themselves.  The three times, I had been arrested, were a direct result of my mom calling the law on me.  I also spent three months in rehabilitation in my 8th grade.  During high school I spent time in a childrens home.  The word "hate" didn't seem strong enough toward my mother at that time.  But because of the tough love she gave us kids and the love we really couldn't realize at the time, I have been clean and sober with two beautiful children.  So I say thank you mom for having me put in baby-jail, rehab and the children's home.  I look up to you and I strive to be like your example.  I have sincerely said that my mother gave me the  "wind beneath my wings". Thank you God!

In 2006, my church started the Celebrate Recovery 12 Step Program, and I found myself volunteering to work with the chemically dependent since I was clean and sober for three years.  I began a journey of a much deeper level than I had anticipated.  Another woman, Patt, with 20 years of sobriety was going to work with the codependents and all other types since she had so many years in all 12 step arenas.  Patt came up to me one evening as I was signing in for the meeting and asked me to be her sponsor.  As I caught my breath, I reciprocated by asking her to be my sponsor.  Patt said, "I need a sponsor too!  The length of sobriety has nothing to do with the need for a sponsor."  As we began to meet, I did not really understand that I would literally  (factually, accurately) have to work these steps.  But gracious as she was, she began directing me in the process.  She said to me, "If you don't work through these steps, how can you guide someone else through them?"  She knew the pain I would experience.  But I wanted what she had, so I took that step of faith and did what she told me to do.  Patt took me on a journey from admitting, to surrendering, to confessing, to repenting, to forgiving, and to service.  I was astounded by the significant change that took place in me and my attitude about life and living.  I encourage you now to get a sponsor and work these steps if you have not literally done so.
